Our last day in Venice.  Oh my, we fell in love with this city... as I'm sure everyone that visits does.  It would be hard not to.  Even though, parts of the city are overrun with tourists...


... we were able to spend most of our time secluded in our own Venice.  We found parts of the city that were secluded, peaceful and utterly gorgeous.  It was just us and the artists.

Before I sat down to write this post, I was going to give a narrative of our last day but now that I'm at the keyboad, I'd like to simply show you some of our favorite pictures from that day.   Next posting will be from Florence!

  We both opened our eyes at the same time this morning.  I whispered to Sonja...  "Let's go to Venice today."  She smiled, rolled over and bemoaned, "let me sleep." And so, our great Italian adventure begins. I'm writing this while we're still at SeaTac airport awaiting our flight.  The stress of travel day was ever present today.  Sonja just about drove me crazy!  Packing, unpacking, checking it and repacking it.  And lord help me if I offered any suggestions to help.  I'd get that look of "shut up or I'm going to kill you."  Didn't have to tell me twice.   Sitting in my home back in Washington state, I had always felt like Rome was probably overrated.  Even though I had never been there just the pictures I'd seen, the things I had read made me believe that it was more or less a tourist trap.  I could not have been more wrong.  Chloe, Abby, JJ...  if you never visit any other place in your lifetime, come to Rome. This city is simply overwhelming.  Yes, there are a ton of tourists here.  But they are here for a reason.  The amount of history, art, food and sites will blow you away.  I don't even know where to start writing about this. We have gone to many of the major sites here. Castel Sant'Angelo Palatine Hill The Colosseum And you can read or watch videos of all of them.  It is impossible to see them all in a single visit.
